Because We Believe
every kid deserves a safe, educational, and fun experience with horses.
Your horse-crazy kid will feel at home with us! Kids and horses are a magical thing. It’s amazing to watch a kid’s confidence grow as they work with a horse. It’s why we do what we do. Our Young Rider Lessons are for 6-9 year old kids.
What We Do – Focus On The Basics
Typically, our Young Rider lessons focus on helping the child to feel comfortable being around the horses on the ground, and to learning the basics of balance and riding a horse. They will learn how to start, stop, and steer undersaddle, and will be introduced to the proper riding position. Our goal is for the child to learn, but also to have fun while they do it.
How We Do It – Learning Through Play
Rather than drilling a skill over and over, we incorporate games and fun challenges into the lessons that give the kids the chance to practice their skills. “Learning through play” is a good way to describe it.
Once the kids have mastered the basics, they can move on to more difficult skills, such as the rising trot or cantering. Each kid is unique, and the pace of their progress will depend on their strength, coordination, interest level, and how regularly they attend their lessons. The more often a student rides, the quicker they will progress.
Why Our Kid Students Choose Us And Stick With Us
My daughter loves Kara and has fallen in love with horses!
Leah, parent of an eight-year old student
Our typical kid student is someone who is new to riding. They have never owned a horse, and usually, neither have their parents. They would love to spend all day at the barn, but riding once or twice a week is all their schedule allows. They want to ride correctly, but they don’t have Olympic aspirations. Some students hope to own a horse some day, and some are content with weekly lessons.
Sound familiar? Many parents look for this type of program, but struggle to find the right fit. Most of the barns in the area cater to experienced kids or adults who want to compete and have their own horse.
At Three Strides, our goal is to provide you and your child with a safe, fun, and educational atmosphere to enjoy horses, both on the ground and in the saddle, no matter how experienced you are. We will work with you and your child to set and achieve horsemanship goals.
Our current kids students are a lot fun love horses. Even if everyone else thinks they are “horse-crazy”, they will likely feel at home with us.
